Safety and Security

With over three decades of experience, the people at Routes Travel have always been committed to maintaining a tradition of excellence in preserving the highest quality educational, logistical, and safety standards. While an enriching and exciting Israel experience is certainly our mission, the security and well-being of our participants has always been and continues to be our highest priority.

Upon their arrival in Israel, participants will be given a detailed orientation regarding safety and security for their trip.

Precautions will be taken to ensure the safety of all participants and minimize any risks. The itinerary of each group is coordinated with the appropriate Israeli security authorities. Our tour guides are experienced in maintaining security and the staff accompanying each group is in constant contact with our Israeli program coordinators as well as the Routes Travel and Amazing Israel offices.

Amazing Israel understands that questions regarding safety and security are of critical importance to potential participants and their families. We value this and are available to answer any questions that may arise at any time. You can reach out to us with questions during our office hours (1am – 9pm EST, Sunday – Thursday) via phone (1-800-606-0416) or anytime via e-mail (

All Amazing Israel itineraries are planned in accordance with the security directives of Birthright Israel and the Ministry of Education Situation Monitoring Room. We hope that the information provided below will help clarify our organization’s rigorous security measures taken throughout each Amazing Israel program.

Free Time

Should free time be granted to the group, the location and time will be at the sole discretion of the Routes Travel-Amazing Israel office.

All buses have at least three cellular phones on board and two-way closed-circuit radios that may be used in case of emergency. When trips are in Israel, Amazing Israel operates a 24/7 emergency phone line and gives the phone number of that line to every trip participant a few days prior to their departure.

Armed Escorts and Bus Drivers

The regulations stipulated by the Ministry of Education require Routes Travel to always have one armed security escort with the group throughout their trip in Israel. In compliance with this requirement, Routes Travel-Amazing Israel does its best to guarantee the highest quality people with a background in security, knowledge and training.

All bus drivers are subject to Birthright Israel approval. For precautionary purposes, bus drivers are instructed to never leave the bus unattended or unlocked.

Routes and Roads

Groups will not be permitted to travel within the areas of the West Bank or East Jerusalem (except for the Jewish Quarter of the Old City). Group travel will be in accordance with the directives of Birthright Israel and the Israeli Ministry of Education Situation Monitoring Room, which change daily according to the situation in Israel.
